Asma Belhamar is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice investigates the relationship between architecture, memory, and materiality. Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, and spatial assemblage, she transforms architectural forms into sculptural propositions that examine the ways built environments carry histories, shape perception, and mediate our relationship to place. Her work draws from vernacular architecture and processes of making to explore architecture not as static form, but as an evolving material language through which memory and contemporary experience intersect.

Born in Dubai, UAE, in 1988, Belhamar received a BA in Visual Arts from Zayed University in 2012 and an MFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017. In 2014, she completed the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship, developed in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design. She has since undertaken residencies at the March Project, Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE (2019), Porthmeor Studios, St Ives, UK (2019), and the Delfina Foundation, London, UK (2026).

Her public commissions include Thresholds of Perception: Redefining Balcony Spaces, commissioned by Alserkal Arts Foundation, Dubai (2024); Union of Artists, commissioned by Dubai Culture in collaboration with Art Dubai (2024); Chasing the Dance of Alfay, Public Art Abu Dhabi (2023); Distorted Familiarities for Expo 2020 Dubai (2021); and The Edifice of Sba, produced through the March Project at Sharjah Art Foundation (2019).

Belhamar’s solo exhibitions include When the Window Refused to Fly, and the Arch Decided to Hold the Sky, curated by Duygu Demir at Green Art Gallery, Dubai (2026), and Solid Void at 421 Arts Campus, Abu Dhabi (2023).
