ABOUT THIS EVENT

In collaboration with 1833, Hashem Montasser, the driving force behind Dubai's renowned dining destination, The Lighthouse, is creating an exceptional culinary experience. This partnership underscores our shared dedication to showcasing outstanding regional talents and offering exceptional dining experiences to our guests.

Iraqi-Canadian chef Zaid Kadhim al Salhi, a multifaceted talent whose pursuits span across art, music, and culinary arts, brings a fresh and innovative perspective to the culinary scene. Inspired by his childhood experiences and a transformative journey back to Iraq, Zaid launched Kleicha in Dubai, a culinary venture named after the traditional Iraqi pastry. Initially focused on this beloved dessert, Kleicha has evolved into a broader concept that offers a modern take on Iraqi cuisine while maintaining its authentic roots.

For this special event, Chef Zaid will collaborate with Chef Davisha and Chef Waddah  from The Lighthouse, infusing the menu with his unique style and flavors derived from his diverse cultural background and artistic endeavors. Together, Hashem and Chef Zaid will craft a dining experience that celebrates the rich flavors of the region while offering a fresh perspective on classic dishes. This collaboration promises to be a culinary journey like no other, showcasing the best of regional cuisine in a setting renowned for its timelesness and pursuit of excellence.

Hashem Montasser

The visionary Founder & CEO behind The Lighthouse Group, a prominent UAE-based hospitality brand renowned for its Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. With locations in Dubai Design District, Mall of Emirates, Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, and Yas Bay Waterfront in Abu Dhabi, The Lighthouse offers a culinary experience that extends beyond food.

In addition to its restaurants and cloud kitchens, The Lighthouse features a concept store, hosts a monthly podcast led by Hashem himself, and boasts an events activations space, all reflecting the brand's commitment to providing immersive experiences. The Group also provides catering and bar management services for private and corporate clients, further solidifying its presence in the hospitality industry.

Before venturing into the hospitality sector, Hashem spent 15 years in the banking industry, where he established a successful asset management business in the Middle East. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Frontlane Capital, a Dubai-based investment management firm focused on early-stage investing.

As a patron of the art and collector, Hashem's influence extends beyond the culinary world. He actively participates in cultural endeavors, serving on the MENA Acquisitions Committee of Centre Pompidou in Paris, France, the Tate in London, UK, and the Advisory Board of NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery.‍

Chef Zaid Kadhim al Salhi

Zaid Kadhim al Salhi is a 22-year-old Iraqi-Canadian chef whose diverse pursuits span across art, music, and the culinary arts. His journey through various creative fields reflects a deep commitment to pursuing what truly fuels him. In high school, Zaid found his sanctuary in ceramics and graphic design, which had a significant influence on his life. This passion for art led him to Central Saint Martins, where he studied product & industrial design while co-founding RAPDXB, a rap media company.

Zaid's journey took a transformative turn with an impulsive trip to Iraq, a place rich with personal and cultural significance. This experience, coupled with his decision to drop out of art school, set him on a new path towards culinary arts. Inspired by his mother, Raghad Al Safi, whose cookbook 'The Iraqi Table' is a culinary treasure, Zaid’s love for cooking was deeply rooted in his childhood. He vividly recalls the bustling kitchen of his family home, where he watched and occasionally assisted in the creation of some memorable dishes.

At 20, Zaid had the courage to follow his culinary passion, studying Haute Cuisine in Barcelona. He then worked at Sala Despiece in Madrid, a unique gastronomic concept that taught him the unspoken language of the kitchen, transcending linguistic barriers through the art of cooking. Returning to Dubai, Zaid launched Kleicha, a culinary venture named after the traditional Iraqi pastry. Initially focused on this beloved dessert, Kleicha evolved into a broader concept, offering a modern take on Iraqi cuisine while maintaining its authentic roots.

Zaid’s creative ventures are not confined to the kitchen. He is also making moves in fashion and music. He has launched his own clothing line challenging the concept of pockets as well as curating a cassette featuring Iraqi artists from around the world, showcasing his versatile talents and dedication to promoting Iraqi culture globally.

In every endeavor, Zaid Kadhim al Salhi remains unapologetically real, driven by passion and a desire to connect genuinely with others. His journey is a testament to the power of following one's dreams and the endless possibilities that come from embracing one's true self.
