For this month’s Film Al Sahra, we’re screening Places of the Soul by Qatari filmmaker Hamida Issa.

An environmental expedition to Antarctica sparks a journey of discovery, leading Hamida back to Qatar to explore sustainability, cultural heritage, and her own identity.

Set against the contrasting landscapes of Antarctica’s ice desert and Qatar’s sand desert, Places of the Soul explores the tension between modernity and tradition, nature and civilisation. Through the filmmaker’s eyes, the film reflects on the places that replenish us, the roots that ground us, and the possibility of inspiring positive changes.

Following the screening, Hamida Issa will join us for a Q&A to discuss the film and the journey behind it.
