Join Dubai-based artist Rabab Tantawy for an intimate masterclass exploring instinctive painting and mark-making. Using charcoal and pastels, guests will loosen control and respond to movement, material, and expression.

As an artist working across painting, sculpture, and public art, my creative journey bridges the commercial and independent art worlds. Over the past decade, I have navigated commissioned projects with global brands while building an artist-led community space in Dubai. I believe that public art has the power to make art accessible, spark conversation, and create a sense of shared ownership. Much of my work happens outside the confines of galleries - on walls, in open spaces, and in dialogue with the people who pass by, ask questions, or simply watch. These interactions have shaped not only the direction of my work, but also the way I understand my role as an artist. My studio practice, rooted in themes of identity and human connection, runs in parallel with my community work - founding Studio Thirteen, curating group exhibitions, and creating opportunities for artists to gather, grow, and be seen. Together, these threads form a practice that is both deeply personal and intentionally collective.

About
I Am
We’re launching a new program that puts regional artists at the center, monthly studio visits, real conversations, and work experienced in the spaces it was created for.We start this January with a day trip to Al Ain: a traditional lunch, followed by a screening in Qattara Oasis. The short film by Roudhah Al Mazrouei, Klaithem Aljabri, and Alawash pulls you into the world of snaah, the red paste made from saffron, mahlep, and rosewater that shaped generations of girlhood and beauty rituals. Honest, textured, and rooted in the women who kept these traditions alive. Culture as it’s lived, not staged.‍
